So wants stopping apple from added drivers to osx to run on what ever hardware that the army has?
Apple, mainly. They are extremely stubborn about what hardware their software runs on.
Or letting them have custom systems or having the use dells / hp / who ever with mac os x?
OS X officially does not run on non-Apple hardware.
The Government, I mean serious government, with big purchasing power gets great deals on Mac's better than you think and competitive to the high end systems you might get from Dell etc
Doesn't matter, Dell's (or whoever's) deal is going to be better. Not to mention by buying a Windows machine they don't have to provide additional tech support, buy any new software, or integrate it into existing networks. Plus Dell/Windows machine makers already have a well-established relationship with the military that goes back decades.

Wow, I expected PPC support to drop in a few years, not a few months. Sucks for anyone with the Quad G5s. Sucks for me with my dual G5. :(

I'm holding off on the ipad. I really like it and I'm not waiting for some future specs. I just am not sure I have enough need for it to spend that kind of cash. I have a three year old laptop and I think I'd rather save a little more money and get a new laptop than add an ipad to my collection. And I think the needs of an ipad are not that great for me right now.
I think if I were to buy one it would be as a gift for my parents. You know these are ideal for people in the family who do not really need a full computer but you'd like to have the ability to interact with on-line. You can set it up with your own computer and occasionally update it for them. It looks to be a lot less of a headache to manage for someone who is not tech savvy than a full computer.
Ditto on all counts, especially if the 3yo laptop is a MBP.

If the MBP's or other hardware is not updated at this event, then when is the next public event to have this happen?
Note that you don't need a public event. Remember, the iMacs were upgraded with Core 2 Duo processors silently. And if I remember correctly, the last time the MBP was updated (with the processor speedbumps from 1.83 and 2.0 to 2.0 and 2.16), it was silent as well.

I wonder why the 2 plans have to be mutually exclusive. Why not download the whole database when you get it, for when you might not get coverage. And then automatically update when you do have coverage. When going somewhere, give priority updating to the current route and then download everything else. Maybe allow current route to be updated with EDGE/3G while whole database updates require Wi-Fi. Just my 2�

If people are less likely to use a cashier who is an ethnic minority (which I dispute, but anyway), would that make them less productive and less valuable for their employer?
So, if it is thought that an ethnic minority would actually do a job worse, because of other people's discrimination, then ethnicity technically would make a difference to their ability to do a job.
Would this be grounds for not employing them?
I just don't see that in real life and I think it would be almost impossible to prove in a court of law.
My belief is that we need to move beyond skin color and towards a system where the economically repressed are given a better chance to move up the ladder of success.

my att iphone 4 was set to automatic time for phx az and it moved my clock ahead by an hr today even tho az doesnt do daylight savings so it shouldn't have to change ever.. the clock app has had problems since the beginning which is just ridiculous..
to fix all i had to do tho was turn automatic time off then back on and it corrected itself.

Umm do not use retail cost of the OS. You need to use the OEM cost. That is 100 bucks.

Unfortunately iDisk is as slow as buggery, and always has been. Apple have done nothing to improve performance.
From my experience, it's the Finder that's slow, not iDisk. I access my iDisk (the few times I need to) from Transmit and it is very fast.
I have .Mac, and I know that, but if you just want Mail you still pay the full wack!!
If you want just the email account then yes, .Mac is not worth it. That's the point. .Mac is more than email, and if you want an email address, get Gmail and hook it up into Mail.app....

Yeah, but you cannot use CDMA abroad, unless your carrier approves your usage of it. As far as GSM goes, you can simply pop in a sim card and it will work (assuming the iPad is unlocked).
Also, the scalpers are sending them all over the world, and not just China. Besides, China (especially Hong Kong) also has GSM (China Mobile, the official iPhone carrier in China).
