Exit through a gift shop, review and inspiration

http://www.banksyfilm.com/

For years now i've seen the likes of Banksy's work rule the streets of London's 'coolest' shops and instantly through this i judged Banksy to be a mainstream sell out who doesn't address real world issue's but just states common knowledge in the form of distasteful graffiti stains on well constructed architecture, however today i stumbled across this movie, my partners sister who is a interior designer in London strongly recommended it, as i sat their whilst she sweetly ran around cooking a fantastic dinner for us, i watched this film. I was completely taken back by it, i myself have had my fair share of street art, running around squats at 17 and seeing the artwork commence, but i still didn't see the real beauty of it, it all had the same illustration and tacky bubble writing which didn't compliment a wall but just make it look a RNB/Hip hop star had sneezed over it. When i first saw Banksy's work again i didn't think it was very creative at all, until i saw this documentary, in the world of art its always fantastic to have a business head on your shoulders, to advertise, to communicate and to exhibit work so you get a well established name for yourself, HOWEVER when put into the wrong hands this can cause up-roar, when watching this film i understood how Banksy's work fell into the mainstream which was completely merciless as it ripped of his work time and time again, it must be so destroying for a design to see your work get in contact with people who have no idea about artwork, but just take and steal from idea's of true artists, what i also concluded was that Banksy really is an artist, i thought i'd never even let that thought cross my mind but from looking at his more underground work, it seems this guy has the most bizarre outlook on life, in art we tend to look to much into things, it gets muddled up but at some point you classify your artwork as art, but for someone like him to look at the world and be influenced by pop-art and the general publics way of thinking it just comes to show that maybe as an artist you should just follow something because its cool or trendy, after all if you want to succeed in the business you must please other people and THEN you can express yourself in different ways because then you're in the publics eye. I think the guy is a genius now, i love his work and its inspired me to think there's no limit, when i see a piece of graffiti now, i'll definitely give it a chance.
