I voted this negative because Apple won't accept certain apps for doing reasonable things. "dangerous" if done incorrectly, but reasonable.
Until devs can do all of the low level things they need to, this is a bad move.
Think about it. If Apple sells an app (via the Mac App Store) that modifies the system, then they need to take that into account when troubleshooting hardware issues, and can't tell you to eliminate the app they sold you.

Indeed, there would need to be a "helper" that checks to see where the track came from, and redirects it to DoubleTwist if necessary.

Not necessarily. We don't know exactly how FairPlay works. Lets say I download my favorite song from iTMS. iTMS encrypts the song and adds my AppleID to it. When iTunes wants to play the song, it calls iTMS, gives it my AppleID, the iTMS returns a key to decrypt the song, iTunes decrypts it and plays it. Most likely iTunes will actually send both my AppleID + some ID for the song, so that if I crack the key for one song I cannot copy _all_ my songs.
Now the question is: Does iTMS keep track of all the songs that I bought or not? If it doesn't keep track of all the songs then the following would be possible: DoubleTwist adds a a random song id to the song. Then it adds _my_ AppleID and encrypts the file. When iTunes wants to play the song, it notices that it is encrypted, and takes my AppleID plus the song ID and sends it to iTMS. If iTMS doesn't keep track of songs then it will calculate which key would decrypt the file (if Apple had sold me a song with that song ID). And that key could be used to decrypt the song.
Another possibility: DoubleTwist could take the song ID and my AppleID from _any_ one song ABC that I bought from iTMS. It could be possible to find which key was used to encrypt that song from that information; nobody would have tried to make it difficult to find out. The decryption key is top secret, not the encryption key. So with this information, DoubleTwist could encrypt any song XYZ with exactly the same key as the one song ABC that I bought from iTMS. ...A doctor has no way of knowing the circumstances of somebody's homelife--and since there are tens of millions of homes I submit that there is no "One size fits all" to allow some outsider's judgement. He is no expert on firearms use or safety, absent being a "gunny" himself....
Maybe it's just my doctor, but they tend to ask what would otherwise be rude questions.

So, to me a question about firearms in the home seems perfectly within the scope of evaluating risks, and more probably, helping to provide information for parents.

I disagree, in the case of a farm, knowing this can help the doctor to ask about exposure to organophosphates or ringworm. The more information has, generally, the better the doctor's ability to assess care.
Doctors shouldn't ask these questions to be busybodies, but to make good decisions and provide care.

I think a lot of people here are missing the big picture. Apple can come out with hardware up the gazoo for the next 10 years. But Apple is not just about computers and hardware anymore. The big money long term is digital content delivery. There is only a limited window of opportunity to become THE leader in digital movie downloads. With Netflix, amazon and others all gunning for that market, Apple had to step up to the plate and offer a superior way of getting movies...especially HD movies...into people's living rooms and onto their big screen tvs.
The fact that they were able to get all the major studios to sign on is a MAJOR MAJOR koo for Steve and Co. If they don't make this priority # 1 then Netflix or amazon will become the standard and Apple will lose out on tens of billions of potential revenue down the line. Any company has to choose its battles carefully and use whatever limited resources they have for the important fights. Once Apple has the download market sewn up and becomes the 'standard' then they'll have so much money for R&D that they'll be able to pop out unbelievable hardware products that we haven't even imagined yet.
But right now there is a sense of urgency that they have to slay netflix and amazon quickly before it's too late. I think long term they are doing the right thing. Sure it would have been great to see some more hardware introductions...and we'll get that...but I can see where Jobs' focus is right now and the truth is that digital content delivery is where Apple's bread and butter is growing these days and there's a tremendous amount of future money at stake that he's eyeing and doesn't want to let slip away.

If there was a study that was conducted some time back [more than 2 months back] and got Apple to investigate the issue seriously, why did Apple wait for another study OR another media non-sense to acknowledge the bugs and report to the consumers?
Why did Apple not rectify the problem before? Did Apple already knew about these features or are they simply getting with this crap by calling them "bugs"?
To be honest, this is probably the first time I'm feeling that Apple was trying to play with the consumers privacy and trust. I think Apple just fooled us.

oh really? thats frustrating!! what soft of temps do they sit at? are you sure you have cranked enough voltage into them?
the temps haven't been that high (70C or under). i have changed the voltages, but maybe not enough. that's one of those things you have to play with.
but it looks like 2 of my rigs are down now. i might be driving back to fix them tomorrow night i guess. i'll put both of them back to 3.5 ghz and hopefully they'll stay stable.
my asus has been rock solid compared to the other 2 though. staying at 3.5-3.6 ghz

I have been a member of this forum since and even though I have never really posted anything I have found wealth of knowledge over the years from people in these forums. Wow and you cannot judge a person's character by a mistake a cashier made in a store!!! Nope, it won't happen at all. There is too big of a market for people who write and rely on custom software. I don't disagree that the friendly face of the OS will continue to get dumbed down. The backend, however, will remain just as open and customizable. Go look at any University and you'll find that in the CS dept a huge portion of the professors and their students use Mac OS X. Restrict this market and you drive away future developers. It would be suicidal.
